મધ્યકાળના અંતિમ કવિ દયારામ અને અર્વાચીનતાના આદિકવિ નર્મદ — આ બેની વચ્ચે દલપતરામ એવા કવિ છે જેમણે મધ્યકાળનો મિજાજ જાળવી અર્વાચીનના પહેલા અંકુર ‘બાપાની પીંપર’ જેવી કવિતામાં પ્રગટાવ્યા છે. રંજ ન થાય એવી રંજકતા, છીછરી ન કહેવાય એવી સરલતા, સસ્તી ન કહેવાય એવી સુગમતા, તર્ક પાયેલા વિનોદની વેધકતા, જાડી નહીં પણ નીતરી નૈતિકતા અને બોલકી ન કહેવાય એવી બોધકતા — આ સર્વથી ભરીભરી દલપતરામની રચનાઓ અર્વાચીનકાળના પ્રારંભના સુધારકયુગની આગવી ઓળખ છે. ‘દલપતરામનાં શ્રેષ્ઠ કાવ્યો’ એકત્ર ફાઉન્ડેશન પર ઈ-બુક સ્વરૂપે પ્રગટ કરતાં આનંદ અનુભવું છું.
