ઉષા ન્હોતી જાગી, જગત પણ જાગ્યું નહિ હતું,
અને જાગ્યું ’તું ના ઉર, નીંદરની ચાદર હજી
રહી ’તી ખેંચી કો હળુહળુ કરે જાગૃતિ જહીં,
તહીં પેલા ટુઈટુઈ ટુહુક અમરાઈથી ઊડતા
સર્યા કાને, જાણે વિહગજૂથ પાંખો ફફડતું
પ્રવેશ્યું ઉદ્યાને, વિટપ વિટપે બેસી વળિયું.

અને એ પક્ષીના કલરવ મહીં તારી સ્મૃતિઓ
ઊડી આવી ટોળું થઈ, વિટપ સૌ અંતર તણી
રહી ઝૂકી, મીઠા સ્મરણભરથી નીંદર વિષે
દબાઉં, ત્યાં પાછી અડપલું કરી જાગૃતિ જતી;
અને તાણાવાણા નિંદ ને જાગૃતિ તણા
વિષે શો સોનેરી કસબ સ્મૃતિ તારી વણી રહી!
